Maybe he got hurt too but it doesn't sound that bad. I would probably wait a couple of days and if he doesn't improve at all go to the vet. Maybe try encouraging him to jump onto the couch so he doesn't seem as scared. If it looks like its physically hurting him then I wouldn't do this. It's possible he may have sprained something. The odds of him really getting badly hurt are not likely but if he banged his back or bruised something it would take a few days to heal. It's not an emergency if he doesn't seem in pain or doesn't cry when you touch him but if you really think in a few days he's just not "right" i would get it checked out just to be sure...I honestly wouldn't worry about it...and i have 6 cats and i worry about everything!!!! Possibly a back injury, that is usually the culprit for not jumping like they used to. Not much you can do for a bruise, strain or sprain. Just rest.
