How many of you can relate to my dilemma?

BIG PROBLEM

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. -

( Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder).

This is how it manifests itself:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car
and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail
on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table
and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my checkbook off the table, open it,
and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk,
where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I’m going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Coke aside
so that I don’t accidentally knock it over.
I realize the Coke is getting warm,
and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke,
a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye–
they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter,
and I discover my reading glasses
that I have been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I’m going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water, and suddenly I spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I will be looking for the remote,
but I won’t remember that it is on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I will water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back down on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then I head down the hall trying to remember
what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day: the driveway is flooded,

the car STILL is not washed,

the bills are not paid,

there is a warm can of Coke STILL sitting on the counter,

there is still only one check in my check book,

I can’t find the remote,

I can’t find my glasses,

and I don’t remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I am really baffled, because I know I was busy all day long,
and I am really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
and I will try to get some help for it,
but first I will just check my e-mail.

I have adhd, and my son. We are GREAT at doing one thing at a time. We do not multitask well. But jobs or hobbies that require FOCUS are perfect for us. So when I do something, I focus strongly on what I am doing. Distractions do not take over my emotions and eyes. It takes time and practice, but it can be done.

Do weightlifting. Weightlifting makes you FOCUS entirely on holding and controlling the weight.

    Hope this helps.

Like now, I am focusing on Yahoo Answers. My wife is going everywhere in the house, doing thousands of things at once.
Drives me and my son crazy. Our way of life drives her crazy.

  13. lilylomper says:

Wow.Maybe you should try concentrating on telling yourself to do just one thing at a time. This way youll get things done or you can have a note pad and write down everything that you notice needs to be done and check it of once you have. That way you may get distracted but at least you have all the things you need to do writen down.

Change doctors. This happens every day to everyone
I know, including myself. It’s called, too much on your
plate. Just take one task at a time and don’t be
distracted by all the others. You’ll improve and be just
    fine.

  19. whoaa angiee!! says:

I know what you mean. My problem is though that sometimes I want everything done so perfectly I only do one thing a day. It’s a real hassel. My only advice to you is that you take one thing at a time. Try and concentrate on ONE item. If you are going to water the garden just water it. Then you see the car dirty then wash it. If you are only able to do 1 thing a day then so be it. Because that way you’ll be able to do that one thing but at least you did right and throughly. Good luck dear and please go tell your doctor.*after you check your email of course*

  20. ♥Jackie says:

my mom gets easily distracted too, so she writes it down before she starts her day…sorta like a checklist. it helps her organize her thoughts and plans.

  23. party boy says:

im trying to work out how you can remember everything that you did on this day in so much detail, but keep forgeting to do the job you are doing at the time, and you wonder why you didnt get anything done, have a look at your question and you will see the answer,,, sounds like a load of sh!t to me
