Home Cleaning and Organizing Service and Maintenance – This would include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, washing tables and counters, vacuuming floor, washing backed up dishes, dusting, window washing, laundry, scrubbing bath tub, cleaning toilet, organizing refrigerator, spring cleaning, getting a car wash. Assisting in home organizing, removing clutter, and keeping papers correctly filed.
I’ve read a number of questions here from people screaming for help with their cleaning and organizing. I think there is a market for such a service.
When you go to clean for someone, make sure you know their preferences. And make sure you are aware of any allergies they might have: For instance, there was one gentleman I cleaned for once in a while who was terribly allergic to many chemicals. And my mother has to be wary of anything with petroleum in it.
Good luck!
Would you trust someone to put your things in an order that works for you? I’d say you need a jolt of energy and self-discipline. Lots of people have household help, but personally I hate it when they put stuff away — I’d far prefer they just pick it up, clean under/around and put it back where it was. That way I can be sure to find it and my home is clean, albeit still cluttered. But hey, it’s your budget.
There are many people who will pay for someone to come into their home to help them get organized. Everyone has a ‘junk’ drawer or even a room full of stuff. Spend the first hour with them teaching/helping them get started on three stacks of keep, junk and donate. When they have junked and donated 2/3 of it, go back and assist them with ways to file/store the ‘keep’ pile.

its called merry maids…
If you were in my area I would hire you because I am disabled. Sounds good to help older people too.
Are you thinking about starting your own business or using the service yourself????
I think starting a business like this would be wonderful. There are many people who don’t have time to thoroughly clean their homes or people who just need some help. Not to mention, the supplies to start the business are fairly cheap.
If you are thinking about using the service, I also thinks its great! I love it when I get someone to come clean my house. Especially when I was pregnant!!
I can tell you I could use the help in all departments. I think that there is alot of people out there that need this kind of service.
Except for the last sentence, this sounds like a typical housekeeping service. You can do this with little experience. Get regular feedback from your clients.
Organizing is a little different. You will need some training for this as well as good networking skills & good business sence. A professional organizer is in constant dialog with the client. You need great inter-personal skills.
This site will give you some info.

There are a lot of cleaning services out there (i.e. Merry Maids) that come around on a weekly basis that you would need to compete against.
I think your idea of a one-time spring cleaning and organizing service is something that is needed in the market and that a lot of people would go for (kind of like what they do on the show Clean House). Maybe you could add a little bit of interior design or partner with someone who could offer that. This would differentiate you in the market. I think there are a lot of messy people out there that are either too embarrassed to get a cleaning service or do not want to shell out $50-200 per month for a regular cleaning service, but would probably pay $500-$1000 for a one-time jump start on organization. You will probably also find a market with people who are looking to sell their homes and/or working with banks who are trying to move homes that are in foreclosure.
Start networking with your local real estate agents. They are the first ones to see the shape of homes going on the market and very liberally hand out business cards of other professionals. Place ads/flyers and business cards with your local senior center as well. These folks tend to have amassed a lot of "stuff" over time and may also need the help with cleaning, lifting, etc.
Good luck!
